Google uses more than 200 ranking factors as the checker in its algorithm for judging your website. Understanding these, and how to modify your site so that it’s optimised the best it can be, is the only realistic method to rise in the SERPs. Most experts agree that two of the most powerful factors boil down to these: keyword use and backlinks. We’ll come to backlinks in a moment, but first let’s examine keyword use. Why’s keyword use and their placement on the page so important? Google, and other search engines, use keywords to assess what your webpage is about and then how relevant it is to a user search query. Doing solid keyword research to determine the best keywords is your first step. If you’re not sure what a keyword is, remember that it can also be a keyword phrase such as ‘vitamins to help with arthritis’. These are known as long-tail keywords. A keyword can also be just a single word (although these are much harder to rank for as there’s more competition). Choosing your keywords is the kick-off point of the SEO process. If you choose irrelevant ones, you’ll see little progress with your SEO. The second step? Positioning your keywords in the right content elements of that page at the places where search engines pay attention when they’re crawling your webpage content. These include the most important page elements such as your SEO page title, meta description, H1, H2, H3 tags and much more. But how do you know if you’ve got it as right as you can? We can help! The second powerful indicator for Google ranking is the backlink. What are they? Backlinks (or inbound links) are links from external sites that point towards your website. Each backlink your site has is strong sign of popularity or authority. Backlinks are important for your SEO because Google will rank a site higher if it has quality backlinks. Another reason to get yourself quality backlinks is to attract visitors to arrive at your website. You can’t set up a website, and then just hope for the best that people will find their way to your website without showing them the way. This type of links are the signposts they need. Backlinks help search engine spiders crawl and uncover the route to your site. For new websites, particularly, or low-performing sites, they’re a fast and effective path towards speedier discovery and indexing of your site. This will lead to better search visibility and a higher position in Google’s organic results. Try out the Keyboost backlink service for free!
One of the best ways to achieve backlinks is to earn them. If your content is useful and relevant, then other website owners will want to reference your site and give a backlink. So it makes good sense to invest time in creating informative and compelling content. You can do this through your webpage content or your keyword-optimised blogs. Or create an informative white paper or case study and post it on your site. SEO experts call this kind of material ‘sticky’ content, precisely because it attracts links. Promoting this strong sticky content further through social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+ will also help you build all-important backlinks because others will want to link to it.
Not all backlinks are the same. Not all backlinks are good for your website. The quality backlinks you should be seeking out are the ones that are directed from relevant authoritative domains in your niche or sector. If the site linking to your site has a high Domain Authority and contains comparable or related content, your backlink will be good for your SEO and visibility. Here are some important points about choosing backlinks:
If you know you don’t yet have enough backlinks, we can help. Here at Keyboost, we’ve developed a specialised tool that will search and place dynamic links to your site from other websites of relevance and authority for your target keyword. It’s called Keyboost. Keyboost ‘boosts’ a webpage using backlinks for a given keyword to higher rankings in Google.
Thanks to Keyboost, a well-optimised webpage (say, top 30 in Google) can reach the first page within the organic search results. On average, a keyword that is in the top 30 can enter into the top 10 Google results. A keyword that is in the top 20 results can reach the top 5, and one that is in the top 10 can usually attain a position in the top 3 ranking. How does Keyboost do this? Our company employs a team of specialists who will research your keyword and the sites competing for that term.
Your consultant will then meticulously search for and identify only those sites of relevance and high Google authority to link to your site. Adding links to your site from ones that are not high-quality and with direct relevance is a pointless exercise. It can result in Google penalties. That’s why we take a quality-assured approach with our Keyboost link-building process. We seek out only trustworthy sites that have a direct bearing to your target keyword for our dynamic links.
If your content is receiving links from other relevant sites, that content will naturally rank higher with search engines’ organic results. Why not try it now? We offer one free Keyboost test per domain if your webpage qualifies as having a top 100 position in Google for a given keyword. Most often a backlink to your website consists of a piece of text, the anchor text. Based on that text, Google attributes a value to the link. It’s important that your website has as natural a link profile as possible: A good mix of different backlinks to your website ensures that your link profile looks good for Google. We put some options for you in a row.
In this case, the text of the backlink exactly matches the keyword for which that particular webpage or landing page is optimized. These are very valuable backlinks when coming from valuable websites, but not when they come from questionable sites. Using this type of backlinks in large quantities was a “black hat” technique to make a particular web page score well for a particular keyword. Nowadays, Google easily sees through this: if the anchor text of too many links – or worse: of all of them – from other websites exactly matches a particular keyword, there’s definitely something going on. Links with anchor text with an exact match are fine on some valuable and relevant external websites, but be aware of an overdose.
If your webpage is optimized for the keyword “backlinks”, possible examples of these anchor texts are: “Benefits of backlinks”, “More visitors thanks to backlinks”, “Good backlinks via Keyboost” or longer anchor texts like “A better position in Google thanks to smart backlink usage”. These backlinks are more natural than those with exactly the keyword as anchor text. But take care: if the exact keyword is used too often in the backlinks, even partially, Google starts to distrust those as much as when you are using the exact keywords too often on your own web pages (“keyword stuffing”).
These are synonyms of the keyword and related words to the keyword for which your landing page has been optimized. Examples of such anchor texts for a landing page optimized for “backlinks”: “Inbound links”, “Place some links”, and “Linkbuilding service”. Find out which related words are relevant to your keyword by doing a keyword analysis.
“Click here”, “Read more”, “More infomation” etc. In most tips on writing good web content, it is recommended to avoid these types of non-relevant anchor texts and always use relevant once. In practice, these kinds of links often occur, so Google finds them very natural. For human users, those links can be optimized without losing the generic character: “Click here for tips on backlinks”, “More info about good backlinks”
These backlinks are in the form of a URL or internet address: “https://staging.keyboost.co.uk”, “www.seopageoptimizer.com”, “keyboost.co.uk”. These types of links are highly recognizable, both for human users and for search engines.
Backlinks with in the anchor text the name of your business or brand name, such as “Keyboost” or “SEO Page Optimizer”. Google easily identifies the relevance of these anchor texts for your website. But still more profound: they confirm the reputation of your company and/or your products or services as a strong brand.
It is possible to use a picture as a link. Google and other search engines can not (yet) really ‘see’ an image and do not know how relevant it is for the external page or the landing page. For this, they rely on the ‘alt’ information in the image tag. That ‘alt’ information should therefore also be considered as anchor text of a link or a backlink.
Backlinks are links from other websites to your website, internal links are links from your own website to other web pages within your website. In practice, those links are of little value to Google, but such internal links are important, even necessary, to achieve a certain percentage of links per page, to make sure Google estimates your website in terms of form and content to have a comparable value to competing websites. Also the anchor text of internal links is important.Do you want to learn more about backlinks and linking?
