The Aim: The First Page of Goole’s Search Results

Why is a place on the first page of Google’s search results so important?

Well, the sad truth is that a place on the second page brings very few visitors. A place on the third or following pages, brings even a lot less visitors. Websites that are on the first page of Google’s search results account for 91.5% of all visitors that surf to a website using a search engine. Websites on the second page will get only 4.8% of these visitors and websites on the third page 1.1%.

There are also huge variations on the first page of the organic search results: for example, a website in first place will obtain five times more visitors than the website in fifth place. But one thing is certain: if your website is not featured on the first page of the search results, it is as good as invisible to the average internet user.

(*) The CTR or click-through rate is a percentage which indicates how many people click on a link compared to the total number of views. A CTR of 10% means that out of one hundred people that see an advert or a link, ten actually click through to see the underlying web page.
